There is no
doubt that Deborah Brooks was inspired. As you will see, a
master artist was at work in her first creation of the
Spenta Angels, the only thing s, Deborah Books had never
painted before. With no ready made canvases large enough for
her inspiration, and no paint brushes, Deborah turned to
large wooden doors for her canvas and bits of sponge for her
brushes. With the doors leaning up against the walls,
acrylic paint, and bits of sponge in her hand, the Spenta
Angels came to life. Seven ancient Babylonian Angels which
date back somewhere between 500 - 1000 B.C. were brought to
life for the first time in her studio in Corona del Mar,
California. Considered to be the first of what we have come
to know as Archangels, the Spentas, as they are called, were
painted in acrylic on wood in a goddess-like feminine
mystique. They stand seven feet high with translucent wings
spreading outward, while some in triptych form span seven
feet across.

| Inspired by a page and a half in a book on angels that told of the ancient Spentas, Deborah Brooks began her inward journey, unraveling the mysteries that date back to antiquity, to one of the last of the unreadable languages called Cuneiform that
further told of the Spentas. And through the cooperation of the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Archaeology, Babylonian Section, Deborah was able to have the names of each Spenta translated back into the language in which they were first conceived...Cuneiform.
Having made the return, her Spentas complete, Deborah has come to see her work as an artist, as a gift of the Divine, a power that continues to unfold itself within each new painting, and each new
collection, that which inspires and touches the soul. And, if it is true as Marislio Ficino, the great soul teacher of the Renaissance has said..."That a renaissance person, as a type, is someone who by virtue of inner sensitivity to image sees a relativeness among all things," then certainly Deborah Brooks, not only a gifted artist, is indeed such a person. |
The
Sacred Angels of the Magi

|
"There
is a remarkable inscription carved on black jasper. Its
characters are still clean and sparkling, astonishingly free from
damage or deterioration despite the very great age. The
letters themselves are neither Sheldon or Hebrew nor Greek or
Arabic nor of any people that can be discovered now or have ever
existed. They are triangular, in the shape of a pyramid or a
miniature obelisk and are all identical except in position and
arrangement. But the resulting composite characters are
extraordinarily decisive and distinct."
-
1621 AD, Spanish Ambassador to Persia
"Carved
on a sheer cliff, some three hundred feet high, stands a Mystical
Figure surrounded in Light, and below, a King looking up at
her. Above her are ancient writings called Cuneiform."
-
1000 to 10,000 BC - Behistun Rock
Archaeologist,
Henry Rawlinson, 1853
"The
carvings told the story of Seven Ancient Holy Immortals, Seven
Angels of Light, Emanations from the One loving, Divine
Source. They were called Spentas, meaning Sacred. Each
bore a name and each bore a gift, a gift to light the way for
mankind."

The Teachings of the Magi
500
BC, Mesopotamia |
| The year was 500 BC in
Babylon, in the land of Mesopotamia, that the Seven Ancient
Spentas, Emanations of Light, came to life as the first guardians
known to man, each bearing a gift to mankind. The story was
carved on stone tablets and remained unreadable for nearly
twenty-five hundred years. The language came to be known as
Cuneiform.
Inspired by the story locked within
the cuneiform for nearly 3000 years, celebrated Artist Deborah
Brooks set upon the task of brushing to life the seven ancient
Spentas, Emanations of Light, for the first time in history.
Creating each in the feminine mystique symbolizing the Goddess
within all women.
And once touched by the beauty and
gift of this story, and by the reception of people around the
world to her work, she continues to produce images of Love, the
power of the Universe. |

Excerpt from the Collector's Edition Fine Art Book,
The Spenta Angel Collection, by Dean Brooks:
Brushed to
life by artist, Deborah Brooks, the Spenta Angels have been
recreated in the feminine mystique. The Angels stand nearly
seven feet high, and some in triptych form span nearly seven feet
across, each bearing their Gifts as told. As Guardian
Angels, their first responsibility is to love. Their second
responsibility is to Protect the life and soul of Man. The third
responsibility is to do for Man, the supernatural things, that we
as a human cannot.
The Creator
then sent his Spenta Angels down to Man, to be seen not, but to
simply wait. To wait to be wished for and believed in. Where their
presence was wished for by Man, they would be. Where there
was a Gift of Light, there could be no darkness. Where there was
the Gift of Wisdom, there could be no ignorance. Where there is
Delight in Beauty, there could only be the face of God. Where
there was Truth, there could be no mistrust. Where there was Love,
there could be no hate, no fear, for where Love is, all other
things are not.
And
so the Spenta Angels came into being, serving as pure incarnates of the
Gifts of the great Creator. The key to unlock the Spenta Angels'
Gifts is in the power of believing. You must Wish for and Believe, for it
is in the Heart where it is first begun, and in your Thoughts where all is
done.
